and second to none, he learned later, the mosque was used as an armory.
After two days enjoying the beauty of the city of St. Petersburg which
was then still called Leningrad, Sukarno flew to Moscow for high-level
talks to discuss the future of bilateral cooperation and various key
positions in the escalating Cold War. In that meeting Sukarno threw his
disappointment at the Soviet ruler Nikita Khrushchev iron curtain, he
saw about a beautiful mosque. A week after the visit was over. A good
news came from the center of power, the Kremlin in Moscow. A local
government officials reported that the only mosque in Leningrad which
has become post-revolution Bolshevic warehouses can be opened again for
worship Muslims, without any conditions. The messenger also does not
provide a shred of reason why it all happened. However, Muslims to this
day are very grateful and believe that the people behind this Sukarno.
So no wonder if the Muslims in St. Petersburg was dubbed the Blue Mosque
mosque Sukarno.
